San Diego Mesa College

Among the largest community colleges in California and the nation, San Diego Mesa College is a fully accredited two-year college serving nearly 25,000 students and offering more than 170 associate degree and certificate programs. With its premiere fine art and music programs, robust language offerings and rigorous math and science curricula, Mesa ranks as San Diego's top transfer institution. Students may complete lower-division Teacher Education courses at San Diego Mesa College. Afterwards, students are highly encouraged to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete the baccalaureate degree and teaching credential. Students have the opportunity to become professionally competent teachers and excellent leaders in the field of education!

The Child Development program offers course work, training, and supervised practicum experiences to meet state licensing requirements for working in centers, schools, child care homes, and services related agencies.

Elizabeth J. Armstrong, Interim President
San Diego Mesa College

Elizabeth J. Armstrong serves as the Interim President of San Diego Mesa College (Mesa College), the largest of three colleges in San Diego Community College District and one of the largest community colleges in California and the nation. In this role, she oversees the education and student services for nearly 25,000 students and 170 associate degree and certificate programs. Ms. Armstrong's career includes more than 35 years of service in higher education. Her last official position before retirement in 2008 was a Vice President of Instruction at Mesa College, a position she held for seven years. Prior to Mesa College, Ms. Armstrong spent 13 years at Canada College in Northern California, where she was Vice President of Instruction (1999 – 2002) and Dean of Science, Technology and Learning Resources (1989 – 1999). She also served as a faculty member at Skyline College for 15 years. Her Education includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry from San Francisco State University. In 2006, Ms. Armstrong received the Award for Administrative Excellence from the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCA).

Tim McGrath, J.D., Vice President of Instruction
San Diego Mesa College

Tim McGrath is Vice President of Instruction at San Diego Mesa College (Mesa College), where he oversees six schools and all instructional programs. Mr. McGrath came to Mesa College from Moorpark College in Ventura County, California, where he most recently served as Dean, Student Learning. Mr. McGrath has a strong record of success community college administration. In additional to his tenure at Moorpark College, he has also served as Dean of Business and Technology at Rio Hondo College. He also has experience as a community college instructor. Mr. McGrath's academic credentials include a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California; a Master of Science in Administration (M.S.A.) from Pepperdine University; a Bachelor of Science in Law (B.S.L.), also from Western State University College of Law; and an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from Santa Monica Community College.
